Studio Sydney is a creative practice created by Sydney Schilling in 2020. Sydney Schilling is an interdisciplinary artist and designer from Iowa and currently working in Arlington, VA. She is primarily focused on textiles, objects, and spaces. Her practice is rooted in observation, intuition, and craftsmanship.

As well as creating work that invites viewers to slow down. For Sydney, her work acts as a spiritual practice. The act of working with your hands is a meditative process, allowing the material to inform the final outcome.
Sydney has been working with textiles and sewing since she was 6 years old, so the progression into the tufting medium in 2020 was natural. She takes strong inspiration from her surrounding environment.
Sydney’s work is authentic to her and shows her meticulous attention to detail in every texture and form that she makes. She believes strongly in play and allows the material to guide her, building upon the vast meaning embedded in textiles and infusing her own stories and emotions.
On Friday May 30th, Well Rounded and Closed Caption hosted Studio Sydney to showcase her works of art. Surrounded by friends, family, and our community in Washington, D.C., we celebrated this incredible artist and her incredible works of art. Specialty drinks were poured by Jane Matcha.
Studio Sydney's works will remain in our shop until June 29th, 2025.
